The 53-year-old bridegroom and the 40-year-old bride married less than three months after they reportedly first met.
The couple "announce that they were married this morning in the presence of their families in the strictest privacy," the Elysee Palace said in a statement.
The wedding was attended by about 20 relatives and close friends, according to Francois Lebel, mayor of the eighth arrondissement of Paris, who presided over the ceremony.
"The bride wore white; she was ravishing, as usual," said Lebel. "The bridegroom didn't look bad, either."
The couple were "emotional and amorous," he added. "There was an exchange of vows and the traditional kiss. Nothing exceptional."
Under French law, marriage must be carried out before a mayor to make it official.
This is the third marriage for Sarkozy, who has three sons, the10-year-old Louis, from his marriage to Cecilia and Pierre, 22, and Jean, 21, from his first marriage to Marie-Dominique Culioli.
Bruni has a six-year-old son, Aurelien, from a relationship with philosophy professor Raphael Enthoven.
